Boondocking @ Morgan Lake Dispersed Campground, La Grande, Oregon. #RVLIFESTYLE

Alrighty! On the move the past 2 days. Stayed in an empty lot next to a Holiday Inn last night in Clarkston, WA. Walmart seemed a little skechy, so found the spot on satellite mapping. Not a peep from anyone. Very quiet night.

Anyway….left there around 11 am and headed SW until I ended up here at Morgan Lake Dispersed Campground, manged by the city of La Grande, Oregon. Found another Gem here. Lake Morgan is a 60 acre surface area lake that was a former gravel pit, re-purposed for recreation. Stocked yearly with thousands rainbow trout, it is a very popular fishing spot. Boats allowed…just no gas or electric motors. 8 camping spots on the lakefront with a handful of other pullouts. Some have full sun, some are shaded. I of course picked one that was great for my solar. All have covered picnic tables with a fire ring. Burn ban is`currently in effect for the entire region. 55 gallon trash cans spread out through the area. No other services….I didn’t see a bathroom or even a portapotty…..but I could have missed it. Access was interesting. This area is basically on top of the mountain (4,200′ amsl), as such the road was steep. Signs at the base provided warnings of steep/narrow roads and one warned of a 17% grade. Road had the requisite washboard and potholes and was very steep in parts. 17% grade? Not sure it’s that steep, but I made it up slowly with no issues. Road is hard packed gravel and is in pretty good shape otherwise. Some reviews I read people said 4wd is needed….which is ridiculous IMO….and I almost didn’t come here because of that…..once again, I’m glad I didn’t listen…..because this spot is fantastic.

So, VWZ is pretty weak here and very spotty. Varies from 0.75 to 3 mbps down/0.5 up. ATT Varies too…. but from 4 -25 mbps down/1.5 – 12mbps up. 30 OTA HDTV TV channels are coming in from both Boise, ID and Portland, OR.

Camp gates are locked at 10pm and open at 6am. Also last day open is Oct. 31. This free camp is 3 day stay max. Hardly anyone is here, so not sure how much that will be enforced, but I’m planning on staying at least the full 3 days.

Feel free to ask me any questions or leave your comments below!

More later…..
